A Quick Introduction to SourceCast
SourceCast is the
application which hosts the whole netbeans.org site, integrating
CVS, mailings lists, Issuezilla, module administration and more.
The application is provided and supported by CollabNet.
Modules
The SourceCast architecture consists of multiple discreet
projects, each with it's own set of developers, website,
and CVS module. These projects map to NetBeans
modules
- each NetBeans module (like core, java, debuggercore ...) has
its own website (
http://core.netbeans.org/,
http://java.netbeans.org/,
http://debuggercore.netbeans.org/
... ), maintained by someone on the development team for that
module.

Categories
SourceCast projects are grouped by
category - these
are simply logical groupings and have no significance other than
that. These categories are called
projects in NetBeans
terminology - the NetBeans projects are listed in the footer of
every page, including "Distributed Application Support", "Source
Editor" etc.
Configuration
If you are module owner, you can configure some aspects of your
module via the SourceCast admin interface. If you login, and visit
MyStartPage,
you should see your module and an Admin link listed. Here you
can configure the category your module is listed under, it's
basic description (as listed on the category summary page), and
any mailing lists associated with that module.
Issuezilla is also somewhat configurable, though you will need
to contact an IZ admin
to request any changes - depending on the change, these should be
discussed on the mailing lists first.
Problems
If you think you've found a problem
with some part of SourceCast, or would like to request some new
functionality,
file an issue against the "www" component,
this will be passed on to CollabNet to evaluate. Please
remember to check if your issue has already been filed! See the
list of
open support issues.
Discussion
The
nbdiscuss mailing list
is the right place to discuss various aspects of SourceCast
and our particular configuation of it - please feel free to
post your ideas or criticisms there!
