Description Matthew Kennedy 2002-01-23 18:10:44 UTC
Clicking on one of the main menu items cause the menu to drop down in the wrong
location. Note: this does not happen when using JVM 1.3.x. I don't know if this
is related to the window manager I am using or not (Netbeans is the only Swing
app I could find this issue in). I am using stanard GNOME, RH 7.2, Sawfish WM:

sawfish-0.38-ximian.5
sawfish-themes-0.2-ximian.1
sawfish-themer-0.38-ximian.5

Screenshot to be attached.

Dafe, AWT/Swing is yours ;-)

Marking this as wontfix. It is jvm x window manager issue. We created
simple examples and were able to reproduce the issue. Note this
problem is only with heavyweight menu, i.e. in MDI mode this works
well. See bugs filed against this problem to the jdk team at
java.sun.com: 4530245, 4470374.

SOLUTION: Upgrade Sawfish window manager to version 1.0.1. Upgrading
will completely solve this problem. I am using Netbeans 3.3, JVM
1.4.0-RC and Red Hat 7.2 w/ Ximian GNOME. You can pull Sawfish
packages and dependencies for RH 7.2 from
ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/linux/rawhide. In Debian, a 1.0.1 binary is
available in Sid. Note, if you're using Ximian GNOME on RH 7.2, it
appears safe to replace Ximian's Sawfish packages with Red Hat's
Rawhide RPMs.
