Description peterkOnsemi 2004-02-25 12:17:52 UTC
Using IDE 3.6 Beta. Missing features which were in
NetBeans 3.5.1 (distributed with Sun's J2SDK 1.4.
2):

1. Un/dock window, so that I had several Multi-doc
windows, each possibly showing multiple sources,
either normally, or "split". No such a feature in
menu neither by right mouse click.

2. To "move" by drag-and-drop "Filesystems"
pane/window to the right of NetBeans main window.

Cheers,

Peter Kehl

Hi, Jan

I beleive that missing undock functionality, e.g. allowing for having
a separate source editor on a second screen in dual-screen systems, is
a regression.

Of course one may argue that it's because of a new window system, but
still this great new winsys should have supported this. At least I've
got this requeest in a fido7.ru.java newsgroup recently.

What do you think, and when should we see such a functionality?

(I also changed the Target Milestone to TBD, because it was 3.3)

Any chances to have dual-screen megarulezz ;-) ?

AFAIK, windowing system improvements are planned for the release after 4.0. But I am not
exactly sure what features it would cover (multi-monitor support, maybe multi-row tabs,
etc. - I am really not sure).

Trung should know more.

Changing to enhancement. This functionality was dropped from the Compact Windows
Mode intentionally.

Implemented in main trunk, views and editors now can be dragged and dropped
outside of main window on second monitor.
