I created an account for "share.java.net" on a computer NOT behind a firewall and this worked fine and I could connect. Now I am on a computer behind a firewall and have to use a Squid proxy server that (usually) allows HTTPS connections without problems. But when I try to connect to the share.java.net account I get the message that the collaboration server "share.java.net:5222" cannot be reached. The error message I get is "Error: java.io.IOException: Response from server: HTTP/1.0 403 Forbidden" The SOCKS5 connection is not an option here since we have no SOCKS5 proxy... Could the collab module be changed that it can use the proxy settings from Netbeans? There I have "Use System Proxy settings" and e.g. the update center works fine.
The collab code could (and should) be changed to use system settings for proxy, but that won't help your problem. You seem to have problem with too restrictive corporate proxy (probably doesn't allow CONNECT method, or at least to non-https port) and that's nothing we could change.
But would it be possible to at least give a warning about that porblem? The returned error message 403 is not very informative and actually misleading.
Reassigning to issues@collab. Collab Support plugin is not actively maintained. Obsoleted in 6.7 by the newly introduced integration with Project Kenai, a collaborative environment for developers to host their open-source projects, which includes also a chat service.
