Description steevcoco 2006-09-05 19:14:31 UTC
When running the netbeans-profiler-5_0-linux.bin installer, the console fills
with segmentation faults before the GUI is opened.

The same behavior happens with the NetBeans IDE 5 installer .bin file; though
that is also available as a zipped archive. I have installed the bin version of
the IDE, and had exceptions thrown from plugins (see this mevenIDE issue:
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MEVENIDE-443) But re-installing the IDE using
the zip archive results in no exceptions.

Since the profiler installer is throwing the same kinds of segmentation faults,
I will not allow the installer to proceed since I might be winding up with a
corrupt installation.

Can this installer also be made available as an archive?

The system is Ubuntu Gnu Linux:
Linux coco-laptop 2.6.15-26-686 #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Aug 3 03:13:28 UTC 2006 i686
GNU/Linux
java version "1.5.0_08"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_08-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_08-b03, mixed mode, sharing)

This is the complete output in the console before the GUI opens:

./netbeans-profiler-5_0-linux.bin

What do you mean by Platform: HP? Are you running linux on HP
workstation/server? Note that only linux@PC is supported by the Profiler.

Profiler archive cannot be made available - actually it wouldn't help anyway, it
contains a little platform-dependent code (binaries) for supported platforms.
Comment 2 steevcoco 2006-09-05 20:03:30 UTC
Hi.

This is on an HP laptop (for what it's worth: HP Pavilion ZD7140US: Desktop
Pentium-IV HT). Any hope for me?

What is "linux@PC"?

Thanks,
Steev.
Comment 3 Jiri Sedlacek 2006-09-05 20:15:47 UTC
If you look at Platform options, there are HP, Macintosh, PC, Sun and others -
this means system architecture, not computer vendor - thus switching to PC
(Pentium IV). This is what I've meant by linux@PC - we support only linux on PC
platform, not on PPC and others.

Reassigning to installer module.
Comment 4 mslama 2006-09-06 08:43:47 UTC
It looks like problem with 'dd' command on your OS. As installer launcher is
shell script you can add set -x to beginning of installer file to get verbose
log when running iinstaller launcher.
Comment 5 mslama 2006-09-06 08:45:32 UTC
As workaround you can try to run installer with comman line option -is:extract
It will extract setup.jar from installer. Then you can run command: java -jar
setup.jar

Comment 7 steevcoco 2006-09-06 17:04:33 UTC
Hi.

Extracting the Jar seems to have worked. The only hope I have is that the
extracted Jar is intact. It ran without problems; and NetBeans boots and runs
the profiler seemingly without any issues, so maybe it's OK.

I'll attach my console output from the following commands:

set -x
./netbeans-profiler-5_0-linux.bin -is:extract
java -jar setup.jar

Thanks.

Output of: set -x; ./netbeans-profiler-5_0-linux.bin -is:extract; java -jar setup.jar
Comment 9 mslama 2006-09-07 09:37:56 UTC
You can verify setup.jar is correct. It had MD5 checksum
ecc06961caf5e5dd9b7e3e0cb5d446c2. To get better log you need to add set -x
directly to installer file at beginning. Then it will log all commands with
filed shell variables. Anyway it is the most probably problem with dd command. I
cannot help to fix this. Closing as WONTFIX. Try to look for OS updates if
available.
Comment 10 steevcoco 2006-09-07 15:50:29 UTC
OK.

For what it's worth, the Jar checksum matches.

Maybe I'll try to post something for the Ubuntu people to look at.

Thanks.

This does appear to be a Ubuntu issue. See:
