Description jrojcek 2007-04-13 08:29:25 UTC
The foremost problem with the main toolbar is that it doesn't fit on 1024 screen width when debugging
(the debugging toolbar is on). This is not only the space issue, it's also about the number of items the
user needs to comprehend.

Recommendation: Eliminate toolbar items majority of users would not use. We need to eliminate at
least 5 toolbar buttons so that the toolbar fits into 1 toolbar row when debugging. From UML we need
to remove:

Print Preview

Should be fixed for 6.0 M9. Please reassign to responsible engineer.

Jano Rojcek is your usability contact.

looks like a duplicate of Issue 94966
but with a bit different justification
As I remember similar bug was closed before 94966 was filed with justification
"we use netbeans toolbar" that's why I argue it's uml beg in description of
Issue 94966.
In my opinion toolbar should be updated with new functionality(scroll, arrows at
side, may be possibility to drag buttons to second row etc) because we need more
toolbar buttons in future (for example it seems good to add align toobar buttons
in my opinion) and removal of one-two buttons now will not solve the issue.

Updating summary.

BTW, there's a new button in the main toolbar - "Advanced Search". Does it belong to UML?
Comment 3 jrojcek 2007-04-13 11:47:49 UTC
Should be fixed for M9.
Comment 4 Sergey Petrov 2007-04-13 12:05:49 UTC
Sorry, I missed this issue was filed against main toolbar, so it's not a duplicate
Comment 5 Peter Lam 2007-04-13 17:59:51 UTC
It's quite confused here in this issue.
By default, there's no Print Preview button and Advanced Search (or do you mean
the Find button) button on the main toolbar if main toolbar is what you meant
here. However, there is a Print Preview button on the UML diagram window
toolbar. Could you please clarify what is on what toolbar.
Comment 6 Peter Lam 2007-04-13 18:08:55 UTC
Forgot to say, UML does not have any button on the main toolbar by default.

I downloaded and installed the full bundle from this location:
http://bits.nbextras.org/netbeans/6.0/nightly/200704131723/installers/

And a "Print Preview" button appears in the main toolbar after installing the build and running it with clean
userdir. I'll attach a screenshot.

There's no "Advanced Search" button anymore.

Print Preview button in the main toolbar (next to Save All).
Comment 9 Trey Spiva 2007-04-16 17:09:43 UTC
The full bundle includes the SOA Pack. I believe the print preview action comes from the SOA pack not
the UML pack.
Comment 10 jrojcek 2007-04-16 17:54:59 UTC
Okay then, sorry about that. I didn't know it belongs to SOA. Reassigning to SOA component.
Comment 11 jrojcek 2007-04-16 17:56:26 UTC
Updating summary. Please take a look at this issue for M9.
Comment 12 Vladimir Yaroslavskiy 2007-04-17 09:50:42 UTC
Print Preview and advanced Search buttons have been removed from main toolbar.
Comment 13 Vladimir Yaroslavskiy 2007-04-17 09:52:15 UTC
BTW, Print Preview is not SOA specific. This action allows user to print and
preview any text documents (plus bpel and uml diagrams). Now NetBeans has very
poor print functionality (no preview).
Comment 14 Oleg Barbashov 2007-05-31 14:50:19 UTC
Verified.
