System: Mac OS X version 10.5.2 running on i386; MacRoman; en_US (nb)

The following catalog url is by default added to the NetBeans 6.1 but it is not possible to connect to this file:
http://plugins.netbeans.org/nbpluginportal/updates/6.1/catalog.xml.gz

The plugin portal was unreachable because of network redirecting issues.  The site is now reachable.
