Description ejvyas 2008-05-01 04:13:05 UTC
Upgrading netbeans should be simpler. It should not include creating new directories and new versions. This leads to
multiple versions on the computer creating more confusion and clashes. The upgrade should be more transparent and sent
as any other upgrade NOT as a different download of the same application
Comment 1 Jiri Rechtacek 2008-05-01 08:01:13 UTC
Updates of NetBeans module are distributed via modules with higher version then was in original IDE distribution. Since
NB6.0 these modules are installed over original modules (if write permission allows) and won't create modules in
multiple versions anymore.

Are you talking about Netbeans modules or Netbeans itself. I am talking about Netbeans IDE. I have 10 versions installed
on my system and each new version/ beta wants to install itself into a different new empty folder. This just adds to the
confusion. Netbeans should update the same old directory....not reinstall as a new product

Please confirm if we are on the same page else I will re-open the issue

Hi Vyas,

You are right we were talking about two different things. This issue might be invalid in autoupdate (ie.updating
NetBeans modules) but it sure is valid in upgrading of NetBeans IDE. Either reopen it and reassign to nbi component or
better file new issue to nbi (NetBeans installer team).

Thanks,
-jiri

Actually Tim Boudreau filed the similar issue (regarding upgrading) long ago so I close this one as the duplicate.
