Description Ondrej Langr 2008-06-25 14:47:15 UTC
The dialog displayed (when JDK is needed at start-time and only JRE is detected) does not clearly (=at the first sight)
communicate the main problem - missing JDK. The overall layout and information structure should be better.

We should create a standalone dialog only to be shown when JDK is needed, but missing. This dialog should clearly state
the main problem (missing JDK) and instruct users on how to get it (link to download).

I'm unsure about the proper component, please reassign if necessary. Thanks.

Fixed. Since NB6.5 M1 the warning message contains a link to wiki where we can explain all user questions concerning
JDK/JRE. Checkout http://wiki.netbeans.org/FaqRunningOnJre and append more if needed.
Reopen if this solution is not enough and recommend better wording or UI layout. Have in mind the warning dialog can be
invoked in early stage of IDE startup and should be as simple as possible to don't affect startup performance.

Agreed to reopen and redesign the dialog.
Comment 4 Ondrej Langr 2008-07-04 14:36:32 UTC
The dialog is redesigned, see the UI spec.: http://ui.netbeans.org/docs/ui/IDE_on_JRE_UI_spec/index.html
