Description giorgio42 2008-07-29 23:15:03 UTC
Current NB6.5 daily (20080729) does not open any deployment diagram I have created with previous versions of NetBeans.

Collaboration, component, and deployment are the 3 least used diagram types based on results from our 5.5 usage survey:

http://uml.netbeans.org/uml_55_survey_result/uml_survey_results.html

We chose to defer them in favor of bug fixing for the 5 more highly used diagrams, activity, class, sequence, state, and
use case. There is no chance of implementing these 3 diagrams and staying anywhere close to the 6.5 schedule.

Will missing the deployment diagram be a showstopper for you?

Thanks,
George

Sounds like bad luck. I am documenting our deployment structures using UML diagrams instead of hacking PPTs.
I have to stay with 6.1 for the time being.

The problem is how to convey to the user that those 3 diagram types are not supported. I am afraid that it will always
somehow look like a bug if one has, let's say, ten diagrams, and 8 of them can be opened, but the two remaining ones not.

Would it be possible to stick with the 6.1 implementation for the 6.5 release and deliver the complete set of diagrams
later? The marketing guys will frown, though. But imagine a full UML (re-)implementation that is rock solid on arrival.

What's the time frame for finishing the migration to the new infrastructure?

Thanks,
Georg

We don't have a schedule for any post 6.5 work yet. We plan to begin once the 6.5 quality criteria is met. A formal
announcement regarding the changes in UML for 6.5 is set for next week.

Thanks,
George

Great to see this has been started, despite all the turmoil during the last days...

may be deployment will fit in 7.0 schedule, most likely other diagrams will not yet. will see.
it's hard to have specific estimations with current resources.
