I find the keymap interface slow to wade through. It's hard to traverse the tree to find the appropriate command I would like to map. I think there needs to be 
an ability to search for a mapping by name.

It will be implemented in NB7 - actually you can already see a snapshots of the new Keymap dialog in latest dev builds.
