If a file doesn't need saving and the user hits command-s (Mac OS X), a system beep should not sound. It should silently think to itself "you don't need to save, silly, you haven't changed anything".
Does it happen just with certain files or all files? Are the files r/o? Does restarting of IDE help?
Could you please describe steps how this can be reproduced? And also attach here your <ide-userdir>/var/log/messages.log file. Thanks
pre-request, the steps are quite simple... Steps: Open a file (for me it's any PHP, JavaScript or text file). (menu item File>Save is grayed out, disabled) hit command-s (the key equivalent for the disabled save menu), behaviour: you'll get a system beep (which is typical for a disabled menu item) expected: standard behavior in Mac apps is to not disable the save menu item when the selected file is up-to-date, and perform a no-op if it is selected comment: overzealous command-save is a behavior you should encourage, having a system beep on an unnecessary file save is negative re-enforcement Product Version: NetBeans IDE 6.5 (Build 200811100001) Java: 1.5.0_16; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 1.5.0_16-133 System: Mac OS X version 10.5.5 running on i386; MacRoman; en_US (nb) Userdir: /Users/bshirley/.netbeans/6.5

I think there should be the way to turn off all sounds it makes. Its really annoying
Reassigning to platform for further evaluation.
Consider providing a patch. Otherwise I don't believe there is anybody who'd like to implement this enhancement.
Please make a check box to quiet the IDE completely. IDEs shouldn't make beeps, dings or bangs. I'm looking at it all the time, why would I also need a sound indication? It's not like on the other side of the room.
