Customer reported an issue here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/netbeans/+bug/264983 

"When i select "Advanced options" in menu Tools>Options, The dialog box is displayed without content and takes whole the
screen.
When i switch in "No mode" in appearance menu, there is no problem.

Do you need to use NetBeans 6.1? NetBeans 6.5 is the latest final release and there is no more "Advanced Options" button.

Please, upgrade to NetBeans 6.5.
