I was emailed the credentials jhanshew/899a0f47d20023cbd12ccda9c4f66f1e to use at the new site.  I attempted to use them to login to plugins.  Failed.

It is unfortunately not possible to login to the Plugin Portal. See issue #176236. I recommend you to quickly change your password before somebody else does it on your behalf.
