An issue with NetBeans currently is that settings are non intuitive - settings
nodes are buried under layers
of folders, and finally map to node sets that are determined by what module
installed them, rather than
what type of attribute.  As an example, the Java Sources node contains
properties such as Show
Editor Toolbar and Default Compiler, but lives in a folder called Editing.

Another issue is that there are a vast number of settings which a user will
never be interested in, and
the current UI does not differentiate between what might and might not be
useful.

I will attach to this bug report a prototype of a solution to this issue and the
sources thereof including
build file.
