In some situations the dialog appeared to be buggy and simply did not return
any results, but did not indicate why (it was for some action
running in the background).

for all I can say searching, no results, partial results are all indicated as nodes within the search results panel. marking as worksforme in 7.3, apparently got solved sometimes in the past with other issues.
