Description jurgenhaas 2010-11-29 07:01:04 UTC
Product Version = NetBeans IDE 6.9.1 (Build 201011082200)
Operating System = Windows Vista version 6.0 running on x86
Java; VM; Vendor = 1.6.0_16
Runtime = Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 14.2-b01

I would like to register with https://inventory.sun.com but my email address jurgen@paragon-es.de is refused because the validator thinks it's "improperly formatted". This is probably because of the hyphen in the domain but as I don't have an email address without that I think Sun should fix that.

This is not a NetBeans related problem so closing as invalid. Please report this issue to Sun Inventory support team [1]. Finally, what you mentioned is correct assumption. The "-" character in your e-mail really prevents successful registration. I know about this issue for several years already so I suggest you simply register with another e-mail address that is acceptable.

I hope this helps.

OK, I've contacted Oracle and got someone on Live Chat. They said that all of the Sun Inventory got decomissioned and that there is no way anymore to create an account to register products.

So, what should I do now if I want to contribute?
Comment 3 Jiri Kovalsky 2010-11-29 12:21:01 UTC
What do you want to contribute? Do you want to report bugs in NetBeans IDE/RCP? Do you want to contribute NetBeans translation? Do you want to contribute NetBeans documentation? Or do you want to contribute NetBeans patches?
Comment 4 jurgenhaas 2010-11-29 12:32:35 UTC
NetBeans is reminding me to register myself and when I follow the link it says:

After you register your NetBeans IDE and GlassFish, you will receive these benefits:
Notification of new versions, patches, and updates
Special offers on Sun developer products, services and training
Access to early releases and documentation
Ability to track and manage your registered products on the Sun Inventory site

So I thought it's useful and important to follow the reminder and register myself. What I could contribute depends on my experience but it could be the whole range as I'm very used to the OpenSource concept. I'm a long standing Drupal contributor as an example.

However, if the intention from Sun (or Oracle) changed and registration is no longer possible or wanted, NetBeans should disable that registration reminder.

I see, in such case I am reassigning to Installer team to re-evaluate this option given current changes (Sun Inventory going soon away).
Comment 6 Yulia Novozhilova 2010-11-30 16:23:54 UTC
The registration functionality has been recently removed from NetBeans, so no reminder in 7.0 Beta and next releases. For NetBeans 6.9.1 you can disable the registration reminder by choosing "Never Register" in the Registration Reminder window.
I'm closing the bug as wontfix if nobody minds.
