If one wants to use netbeans for editing very big files we should allow this but still keep reasonable performance. This can possibly be done by disabling the features which occupies the CPU/memory the most but are now critical for the editing (navigator, semantic highlighting, validation etc...). IMO if the only syntactic coloring and basic indentation is left it would be still OK.
