Operating System = Mac OS X version 10.8.5 running on x86_64
Java; VM; Vendor = 1.7.0_25
Runtime = Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 23.25-b01

Running on JDK 1.7, NetBeans does not offer you Java 8 source compatibility in the Properties UI for Maven projects:

Properties -> Source/Binary Format
