System: Windows 8.1 64 bit, de-DE NetBeans IDE 8.0 Google Chrome 35.0.1916.69 (Offizieller Build 265428) beta-m When I try to use the NetBeans connector with Google Chrome, it tells me to install the Extension. Installing it via the official google site doesn't work at all. Installing it manually does work, but only once (for this one debugging instance). If I then close the tab, and start debugging again, I have to install the Extension again (by drag&dropping the .crx into chrome (I don't have to uninstall it first)). Then it works again. Restart PC/NetBeans/Chrome does not change anything. I've read in another issue that it might be due to localization, but this was in 2012 and Windows XP.
Could you please attach here content of following page opened in Chrome? chrome://version Could you also try stable Chrome, if it makes any difference? Thank you

Stable channel of Chrome works.
Thank you for the update, I'll try it later on Windows8 (en) with Beta Chrome as well.
Hi There, This exact same thing has begun happening to me today (this was working previously for months). Here is my chrome version: Google Chrome 35.0.1916.69 (Official Build 265428) m OS Windows Blink 537.36 (@172278) JavaScript V8 3.25.28.13 Flash 13.0.0.182 User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/35.0.1916.69 Safari/537.36 Command Line "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --flag-switches-begin --flag-switches-end Executable Path C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe Profile Path C:\Users\KnoHolEM\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default Variations 6dcb530d-d1261266 74785582-3f4a17df 514bad25-7215e5f8 e950616e-ca7d8d80 8afebf76-a993dfc1 c70841c8-a2567007 29f8fea-dffbf7ac 195ce1b5-d93a0620 9e5c75f1-5e376845 24dca50e-837c4893 ca65a9fe-91ac3782 8d790604-805355d4 4ea303a6-cf8ac7e6 b2612322-9b48079a ea1014b7-dd21eb5a 5a3c10b5-e1cc0f14 244ca1ac-e1cc0f14 3ac60855-486e2a9c 246fb659-5c63917a f296190c-8965af99 4442aae2-a5822863 ed1d377-e1cc0f14 75f0f0a0-4ad60575 e2b18481-bca011b3 e7e71889-4ad60575 398dbd56-ca7d8d80
Ok, I fixed the problem although not sure how. I uninstalled the extension, then I went into task manager and closed down all instances of chrome, I then hit run in netbeans and was prompted that I needed to install the connector. I opened the browser through that window and installed. When chrome restarted it also asked me to log into google drive again (not sure if that is relevant). Now I can open and close chrome and run netbeans connector and works as before. Hopefully it doesn't start happening again!
Reproducible on Chrome 35 Beta and Windows (haven't tried Linux) Tomasi, assigning to you but please if I'm wrong reassign it to someone else. Apparently Chrome 35 somehow changed something with extensions. Among others, with Chrome 35, it won't be possible to install extensions from outside of WebStore (I guess it affects NB RC builds, maybe Beta?). Chrome 35 will be released at the end of May Product Version: NetBeans IDE 8.0 (Build 201403101706) Java: 1.8.0; Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 25.0-b70 Runtime: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 1.8.0-b132 System: Windows 7 version 6.1 running on amd64; Cp1252; en_US (nb) Google Chrome 35.0.1916.69 (Official Build 265428) beta-m
Nice. I have no idea where to look exactly but I guess there is noone else who could do that right now...
> it won't be possible to install extensions from outside of WebStore Well, in RC/FCS builds, we do install the Chrome extension from the WebStore, so I'd guess the issue is something else. Thanks Tomas for looking into this.
It seems like there is a new file called "Protected Preferences" in directory of Chrome's user profile. This file contains info about extensions. It used to be in "Preferences" in older versions. I'll upload the file here for reference.

I made the fix as Láďa suggested, it seems to work for me. Láďo, please test carefully stable as well as beta version of Chrome. Also let me know if it is fine to backport it to Patch 1 (once it is verified). Thanks a lot. http://hg.netbeans.org/web-main/rev/df69e94154ba
Thank you, will try in first web-main build. I know it's late but I think this would be good to either put to patch1 (maybe together with issue 244049) or place it to update center before Chrome 35 will be released. Otherwise Easel won't work with Chrome35+. I found yesterday that Chrome 35 should be released at the end of May, but I can't find this information now to verify the date...
I think we should deliver this fix in Patch 1 together with fix of #244049 if it gets fixed today. If not, it would go out in a follow up Patch 2. Tomasi, please backport the fix to release80 branch upon Lada's verification in trunk. Thanks!
Sure, I will do that. Thanks.
Thanks Tomasi. I've tried following: - Windows 7, Chrome 34 (stable) => works fine - Windows 7, Chrome 35 (beta) => works fine - Ubuntu 12.04, Chrome 34 (stable) => works fine Chrome Beta on Linux does not work but this is not related to this issue. I don't know if this is exactly the same bug, but I'm now experiencing the same kind of thing under Chrome 37. When I click the green Run Project icon in NetBeans, I get an error message 'NetBeans Connector Chrome Extension is required' (see attachment 1 [details]). If I click the 'Not connected?' link, I get another error message (attachment 2 [details]). If I click 'Yes, the extension is installed now' , I get the same error. If I cancel out and re-install NetBeans Connector in Chrome (from Chrome Web Store), it works. BUT only until the next Chrome restart, then it fails again. Please download latest NetBeans 8.0.1 (https://netbeans.org/downloads/), it should work with it. There have been several fixes after 7.4
OK, I can confirm that it works with 8.0.1. My 7.4 didn't indicate that an update was available, but I guess it's because 8 is a new major version? (In reply to Vladimir Riha from comment #26) > Please download latest NetBeans 8.0.1 (https://netbeans.org/downloads/), it > should work with it. There have been several fixes after 7.4
Yes, IDE update to major version must be done via a new installation. Thank you for confirmation.

This is happening again for me when using Chrome Canary or Chromium. I have to reinstall the plugin every time even though it is installed. Using real Chrome works OK but I would prefer to use Chromium if possible. For a short while I had Chromium listed as a browser that I could use with the connector but after updating it no longer appears. Canary and Chromium are both currently at 47 I think. Chrome is at 45.
Please do not reopen this older issue. There is a new update (invoke Help->Check for updates in NetBeans) for some latest plugin recognition issue and also a new version of NetBeans Connector has been released to Chrome Web Store. If that won't help you, could you please file a new bug with precise version of Chrome/Chromium and IDE log (see http://wiki.netbeans.org/FaqLogMessagesFile)? Thank you
