When I try to update preinstalled plugins or install new ones through Helps->Check Update or Tools->Plugins menu I've got the same problem. The Netbeans downloads plugins apparently and prompts me to restart. When I press the 'Finish' button, Netbeans just shuts down without restarting. When I restart it manually, no plugins updated/added.

I've tried to change plugin install location, choosing one-by-one of three options ('default', 'shared directories', 'user directory') without success.

The problem apperars on 8.0.1 version. I've downloaded and made clean install 8.0.2, but the problem remains.

Ubuntu 14.04 x64, Netbeans 8.0.1 & 8.0.2 (php version)

The problem partially resolved by chmod 777 on netbeans/ide folder
