Having Tools -> Options, one row should be added above all options for quicksearch. After typing i.e. 'an' in it every option that has 'an' in name should be displayed (filtered off others). There will be no nodes/subnodes. Sort of Mozilla's quicksearch through emails.
I started to create an enhancement request issue, but found this and 27490 suggesting the same enhancement. With the evolution of the options page from 3.5, 3.6, and 4.0, the options have been substantially changed, reorganized, and improved; thus heightening the need for some simple ability to search for the option to quickly set a value or query for a current setting. Is there an updated status for this? The last comments I can find are from late 2002. Thanks, Travis
Totally agree with Travis: I was sure that this Options thing would be fixed in v4: alas no. Whenever I hear the topic of NetBeans being discussed among those who've used it, this is a common topic. "I took forever to find option foobar", or "I knew I had fixed this before, but I couldn't find the damned option again" 13989 is another cry for help on the same issue. Gotta be simple to fix, and this quicksearch looks good to me. Regards, David
Options dialog will be redesigned, so this issue is obsolete. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 58412 ***
