I am using:
Ubuntu Xenial x86_64
openjdk 8
Netbeans 8.1
cordova plugin 1.33.1

I select new project -> Cordova application

The "new project" dialogue will either show 
"The target filesystem or folder does not exist" or
"The file <path> already exists"
but no matter what is entered or selected will never create a new project.

The problem is reproducable with

 NetBeans IDE Dev (Build 201609020002) 
Cordova Support 1.35 (Latest Development Build)
