When you open a file for comparison within the Commit dialog and edit it within the comparison view, there is no way to save the changes right away.
Only when you click 'Commit' or 'Cancel' you'll get a dialog asking what to do with the unsaved files.

It should be possible to save the changes manually by pressing Ctrl+S and/or a new button besides the ones for navigating between the differences.
