Description willhains 2004-02-12 17:30:50 UTC
In 3.5.1, it was at least possible to change the
size of the font in the output panel (but not
font face or colours).

In 3.6, it seems even this option has
disappeared. What is more, the default font is
big and ugly.

I would argue that since the output panel is
where all the stdout logging of a running process
goes, users should be given as much control over
its look as they have over the source editors.

Apologies - in 3.5.1 it *was* possible to change colours, but not
font face.

In 3.6 there seems to be no control at all over the look of the
output panel.

After thinking about this issue further, I think it would be much
more useful if output tabs were just treated as documents, with each
output tab type being a document/editor type (eg. compiler output,
search results, process I/O, etc.) with its own set of fonts/colours,
keyboard bindings, macros, etc.

In addition to resolving the original issue of colours/fonts in the
output panel, this approach would also be very handy for editing
output (eg. to make an ad-hoc report, or demonstrate a bug, etc.),
and all the really nice features of NB documents (eg. highlighted
search, keyword colouring, etc.) available to output as well - which
would make this NB user very happy! :) :) :)

see also issue 55455 - wow, this issue is now almost 2 years old, and it'd
probably be such a simple fix for someone familiar with the options dialogues...

The core team has not been responsible for terminal emulator for long time, so
reassigne all opened issues to responsible person.

I believe this is still relevant to output2 since it still
doesn't have an options panel in 6.5.
