If I select anything on the welcome page with 
the exception of New Project or Sample Project
I am greeted with a message box explaining:
A java.lang.IllegalStateException exception has 
occurred.
The log tells me:

Looks like a core issue. beans->core

Known problem in beta2. Fixed in recent 4.0 builds.
