I remember that in nb 3.6 nbm files were assigned to netbeans IDE . but they are not assigned in new netbeans.
-Maybe im wrong about 3.6 but they could be assigned to open By netbeans automatically when people click on them -

Any association between IDE and files (java, nbm) on Windows is not created by
installer for NB 4.0, 4.1 and 5.0. As users are missing this feature we might
add it again to installer.

it is duplicate , but it is not fixed yet , i verify that it is dup
