It would be interesting to have in Netbeans a "stop" button in the toolbar to
stop the current running app. 

Going to the "Runtime" tab just to stop the process isn't very intuitive, not to
mention it takes more clicks to get there.

What is the "current running app"?
Ok, if there's just one, that'd be easy, but what otherwise.
There's Build->Stop Build/Run action which is what you probably need.
CCing Jesse, there's probably similar issue on his list.
