Description jminnihan 2006-11-02 16:09:35 UTC
Running NetBeans 5.5 on Mac OS X 10.4.8 results in very sluggish performance with multiple second
response time for mouse clicks.
Comment 1 jminnihan 2006-11-02 16:13:59 UTC
Mac computer in use:

PowerBook G4 1.33GHz (1 core)
1.5 GB RAM
120 GB 5400RPM HD
Mac OS X 10.4.8
Java 1.5_06
NetBeans 5.5 (Production Release) with Visual Web Pack, Enterprise Pack, Glassfish

Eclipse, JBuilder, JDeveloper run very well on this computer. NetBeans 5.5 is sluggish and unusable.

Could you please mention at least some actions which are slow ?

Milos,
do you know about any general issue with performance of NB 5.5 on Mac ?
Comment 3 Milos Kleint 2006-11-07 09:47:57 UTC
jminnihan: your perceived sluggishness can have multiple sources. The most
probable one is not having enough heap space for the IDE. Given that you have
VisualWeb+Enterprise packs installed, the requirements for smooth running might
be aq big higher.

to check the heap space, please enable the memory toolbar (right click on
toolbar and enable the Memory item)

you can adjust the memory heap that the jvm is allowed to use by editing the
NetBeans.app/Contents/Resources/NetBeans/etc/netbeans.conf file.

cannot do much unless the reporter includes additional information that could
help us locate the source of problems.
