I got a stack overflow when opening the list manager java source from the mail
list app in Apple's enterprise java examples

Did it happen only once or is it happening every time you try to open the
mentioned source? Could you please try to start your IDE with clean userdir? 
netbeans --userdir <path_to_new_userdir>
