I would like to share with you the user experience I had. a) You see the name of the guy that added the module as the Author of the module (not correct. it can be the name of the guy that proposed the module of another guy) b) Once you did a search, or select a category or click on a module, you have no way to come back to the main page http://plugins.netbeans.org/PluginPortal/ c) Once you selected a module you have not anymore the categories list on the rights d) you can't click on the category of the the module to see other modules belonging to the same category. e) you can't click on the version of netbeans (work with) to see other modules available for that version, ... f) search for a module shoud be available on all plugin's page Don't misunderstand me. I like very much that new portal. The issues I listed here are little issues (I hope) and should not be so difficult to fix. But should be fixed before his lanching. No ?
The category listing on the right side of the page isn't organized very well. It is confusing and not easy to follow with the eyes.
>a) You see the name of the guy that added the module as the Author of the >module (not correct. it can be the name of the guy that proposed the module of >another guy) I never liked the word "Author". I changed the tags to "Owner". Good suggestion, thanks. >b) Once you did a search, or select a category or click on a module, you have >no way to come back to the main page http://plugins.netbeans.org/PluginPortal/ You can always get back to home by clicking on the "Plugins" tab. Also, I've spoken with Josef, the UI Designer, about navigation issues in general that people are talking about. We would like to get the bread crumbs working but that will require some analysis to get it right. >c) Once you selected a module you have not anymore the categories list on the >rights Yes this the detail page and I think the idea is to maximize the real estate for showing the Plugin details. >d) you can't click on the category of the the module to see other modules >belonging to the same category. This is part of the UI spec but I didn't have time to implement it for phase I. So it is coming. >e) you can't click on the version of netbeans (work with) to see other modules >available for that version, ... That's another good navigation suggestion. >f) search for a module shoud be available on all plugin's page I talked with Josef about this and he didn't like the idea of cluttering up each page for somewhat of a corner case. In other words, is the number of times someone really wants the search on the page worth cluttering every page? Also, we discussed that the search is always just one click away, the "Plugins" tab. Thanks for your input!
I don't really like the word Owner either. Submitter would be better. We still need the Author (maybe as Developer though) there which can be entered by the submitter and it will tell who actually wrote it, a company or an individual. Owner/Author just being the person who submitted the plugin doesn't match the rating system as a person can submit plugins from multiple developers.
As Plugin Portal JSF site completly replaced I mark this issue as WNF...
