P1 since it should be done for 6.0 FCS.
The partial fix is ready. It would be commited when the FCS branch is completely created. The things that are missing/not properly working in this fix: - table row/column highlighting (source to improve the current implementation : http://lawrence.ecorp.net/inet/samples/dhtml-rollover-tble-rows- css.shtml) - The page is still scrollable in FF with 1024x768 resolution. At this point I see no perspective to improve the situation but who knows.. - Extra line between "Note:..." and "NetBeans IDE Download Bundles". At this point there is no way to avoid it :( - Page header and borders are now using the current netbeans.css (not the new one, staged at the Jan`s site) - Regarding Ondrej`s note about JDK link (JDK download page should be linked from the "JDK is not included" notice) I have one thing that is not obvious : which page should we link? If it is the one on java.sun.com then what about Apple and Mac? - The question marks and are available at Ondrej`s design are not in the current implementation. First of all, it is not clear to me how to add them (I am almost complete sucker in HTML/css/js:), and, secondly, from my point of view they look like an encoding problem. :( I am much more comfortable with "i" instead of "?". The good thing is that the mobility end2end message is now shown in all browsers. Jan Rojcek, Jan Pirec and Ondrej: please review the current design implementation and share give me your feedback and advice.

Sorry.. Pirec->Pirek.

Dmitry, very good work! Differences I noticed: --- The colors in the design are different from implementation. Notably: - color of the orange headings - color of the column background - color of the table lines - color for the disabled column name and dots and dashes - color for the platform note The whole page in the new design (for 6.0) is wider than 5.5 pages. So the columns are wider in the design than in the implementation you sent. --- Ideally the JDK note for Mac would not be there at all. JDK is integral part of Mac OS X. No need to point to its download. I'll also update the UI spec with the new wording for platform notes as I indicated earlier. That should also be implemented. Thanks!
Jano, > - color of the orange headings Fixed > - color of the column background Hmm.. it really seems to be the same (#FFF4E5) > - color of the table lines Fixed > - color for the disabled column name and dots and dashes Fixed > - color for the platform note Fixed > The whole page in the new design (for 6.0) is wider than 5.5 pages. > So the columns are wider in the design than in the implementation you sent. Jano, I guess this is set in netbeans.css that lives on server (for now - www.netbeans.org/netbeans.css). If anyone has the new netbeans.css - please let me know. Now I have put the same download buttons as were in the design - and the page looks a little bit ugly. > Ideally the JDK note for Mac would not be there at all. JDK is integral part of Mac OS X. > No need to point to its download. Sometimes only JDK1.4 is installed on MacOS systems thought JDK5 is needed. > I'll also update the UI spec with the new wording for platform notes as I indicated earlier. That should also be implemented. Jano, thanks for your comments! Thanks!

Now it looks good to me. Thanks! I guess the web page will be wider if you upload it to the staging server. Jan Pirek can tell you the details. A few more subtle things: - Please check the orange color for the star symbol. It looks darker than the text, but it should be the same color. - The "NetBeans Packs" label and column titles should be on the same base line (currently the column titles are a bit higher than the "NetBeans Packs" label. - For some reason the "NetBeans Packs" and "Bundled Servers" are in italic font on Firefox on Mac. - The orange labels look to be too bold comparing to the design. But that's probably a font issue. Can you maybe try smaller font? If it doesn't help, use the current one. Thanks!
Jan, thanks for the next review stage :) > - Please check the orange color for the star symbol. It looks darker than the text, but it should be the same color. You are right. The 'star' symbol is actually an image (I don`t know whether we can use uppercase star as a text char). I`ll change it`s color. > - The "NetBeans Packs" label and column titles should be on the same base line (currently the column titles are a bit higher than the "NetBeans Packs" label. Well.. I guess that the reason is the 'star' image.. Let me check what we can do here. > - For some reason the "NetBeans Packs" and "Bundled Servers" are in italic font on Firefox on Mac. No idea.. I have FF2.0 on my Mac and the webpage look the same as in opera9/IE6/firefox1.5 on windows > - The orange labels look to be too bold comparing to the design. But that's probably a font issue. Can you maybe try smaller font? If it doesn't help, use the current one. Descreasing the font size to 0.1em solves the problem.

Looks good to me. Maybe the star symbol is too small now and there should be a bit more space below the Legal and Instruction links (to make it perfect ;-). Also the Apache Tomcat label is wrapped in Safari. We need to make sure that it doesn't happen on the wider page we would use for FCS. I've added wording for the platform notes into the UI spec: http://ui.netbeans.org/docs/hi/nbi/nbi-ui-spec.html It says: for Solaris - "Note: Mobility is only available for Windows and Linux." for Mac OS X - "Note: Mobility is only available for Windows and Linux. UML for Mac OS X is only available from the IDE's Plugin Manager (Tools | Plugins)." for OS Independent Zip: "Note: GlassFish and Apache Tomcat are only available in platform specific installers." And wording for notes below the table: The exact wording of the note below the table (use the platform sentence if it's available): --- "You can add or remove packs later using the IDE's Plugin Manager (Tools | Plugins)." "JDK 6 or JDK 5.0 is required for installing and running the NetBeans IDE. You can <link>download the JDK here</link>." "NetBeans source code and binary builds without bundled runtimes are also available in <link>zip file format</link>." "Instructions on how to build the IDE from sources are documented in <link>NetBeans wiki</link>." "NetBeans Platform is part of NetBeans IDE. If you need it separately, you can <link>download the platform here</link>." --- For Mac OS X, use the following wording for the JDK note (no link to JDK download is present): --- "JDK 5.0 is required for installing and running the IDE." --- For the Mobility note, use the following wording: --- "Mobility Web Services Connection wizard is only included in the All download, not in the Mobility download".

Done. I haven`t added more space under Legal/II links for 2 reasons: 1) we fight for not scrollable page under 1024x768 but add more space that is not much needed 2) the main css (and the page borders) would be different Moreover now the ZIP note is very long.. but it would not be wrapped (as well as Apache Tomcat name) with using more wide design for FCS.

Thanks Dmitry for implementing the wide screen design! I can compare it better with the design screenshots. ;-) The subtle differences I noticed: - the bundle columns should be slightly wider - the space between the download buttons and download table should be a bit bigger - the column titles should be a bit closer to the table Just note that we're still working on the "question mark" (?) or "info" (i) graphics to show next to each pack name. We should have the design ready soon.

It's almost there! :-) The last thing I noticed is the color of the labels (notes, "Free", bundle size, "Language:", "Platform"). It's somewhat blue-ish, but it should be black or dark gray (use the same color as for the pack and column names). Sorry for the nitpicking, I think it's very very close to the design. Thanks a lot!
Jano, this color comes from netbeans.css and used as the default font. I am not sure that we should override it... (you can check that the same font color is used on the whole staging server (nbstaging).

In that case I believe we should fix the main css, as we want all regular texts to be black (or some sort of gray). The download page and start page look good to me. Just note that we've got some new requirements for the start page, so we'll need to update it a bit. We're working on its design right now. I'll let you know when we have it. Thanks!
Just a note : This issue most probably won`t be fixed until the FCS. It is not a stopper for RC1/RC2...
BTW, what is the correct tracking header for the download page? In the current design implementation it is (see the top of the page) HOME / Products / IDE / Download HOME -> http://www.netbeans.org/ Products -> http://www.netbeans.org/products/ IDE -> http://www.netbeans.org/products/ide/
I think it should be just "HOME / Download".
Jan (Rojcek and Pirek) and Ondrej, could one of you summarize all the requirement that are not yet down (and no even design preview for them) and that should be done / very desired to be done / optional? In particular, what is missing (wrong) in the current design that prevents us from using the current implementation? It seems that I don`t realise now the amount of work that should be done in this area before FCS.
The things I am aware of are (i was looking at Design Implementation, drop 8): * implementation of the "download started page" - should be done (design is being finalized). * implementation of the (i) mouseOver icons - should be done (design is being finalized). * there should be proper information about size of each pack - should be done * highlighting does not work in IE at all(tested on 7.0) - should be done, helps users' orientation in the table big time * highlighting only works one dimensional, not two dimensional (tested in both FF and IE) - desired * the little image with dot with "1" as an index has a wrong background (can be seen when the line is highlighted) - very desired * breadcrumb navigation should be HOME / Download - should be done
Attaching the two remaining designs - 1) the (i) graphics on the downloadpage (display the pack description when the mouse is over them 2) the "download started" page providing md5 and other information ..

Created attachment 52972 [details] "Download started" page with md5 checksum and links to other resources
Please update target link of the top navig tab 'Features' to http://www.netbeans.org/features/index.html thanks
The next iteration (actually not much difference) is ready. What`s fixed: - the little image with dot with "1" as an index had a wrong background - breadcrumb navigation now is HOME / Download - slightly updated start.html page - fixed Features link (now points to non-existing location)
Created attachment 53067 [details] Design implementation, drop 9
Created attachment 53076 [details] Design implementation, drop 10 ('download started' page updated)
Design implementation, drop 11, is avaialable. What`s new: - 'i' icon (with popup description) - updated started page with handling extended request and showing information (for now - size and md5 is a stub) about the downloading file. The page still doesn`t work in FF. :(

The new page has been integrated into release60 branch (it is already in build 200711231245) It would be commited to trunk when 6.0 will be live.
