There is no way to diff a checkout against an specific revision or tag. This was part of old CVS support.

Search history does not work for me, as described here:

http://www.netbeans.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=66724

Reopening this issue since I cannot test if it works, will close it if testing 
this feature does what I expect it to do.

Even Search history does not do what I need. I need to diff a _modified 
checkout_ against a _specific revision or tag_ in CVS, not the "base" revision 
they were modified from.

It seems that people are really missing this function - 10 votes here, 11th in
duplicate.

There is now a "Local Copy" node in the Diff view of Search History. You can
diff your local working copy with any previous revision of the file there.
