Don't do that. If you ask for properties on a .settings file in the layer, it really tries to load it; and in this case it cannot, since the module is not installed in the dev IDE. Not an issue of either autoupdate or the template, just a fact of how the <this layer> nodes work.
Show properties is normal action of user. I know that it is not ease to fix it. But it is defect.
If and when I figure out how to do that...

won't be better to set those issues as dependent, not like duplicates?? just for better tracking..
Re. set as dependent - feel free to do so if you want. No strong opinion.
in current state it would require huge IZ refactoring (=>lot of spam), there's a lot of duplicate issues of Rewrite layer nodes. - leaving it this way.
Of course during a rewrite I would look at the list of duplicates to make sure I hadn't forgotten any important issues.
